All STD calls in India at Re 1/min from March 1

In a major bonanza for customers, state-owned
telecom majors -- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam
Ltd -- on Friday announced a maximum tariff of Re 1 per minute for
calls anywhere in the country under the much-publicised One-India plan,
effective from March 1.

The two
communication companies jointly announced the new telecom packages
under which BSNL would offer a minimum tariff of 40 paise a minute for
its mobile subscribers (post-paid) for calls on its network.

Under
the new tariff package, fixed-line services would have a rental of Rs
299 a month and the local call charges would be Re 1 for 3 minutes.
